in the beginning of ex-wives, theres a little tune that plays. this tune is called green-sleeves. so, people think originally that green sleeves was written for anne boleyn from henry VIII as a love letter. although, this was disproven once we found out the time period green sleeves was written. anne boleyn was already beheaded, and as well as henry already died.

now, the “but my lipstick’s red” part. when henry got tired of her (because she couldnt produce an heir), he falsely accused her of witchcraft (sees that in anne boleyn’s song ‘don’t lose your head’ where she mocks henry going ‘you damned witch!’) and adultery with her brother and other men i believe.

another fun fact! anne boleyn was beheaded with the sword rather than the axe. this was Henry’s last “token of love” to her. since, the sword is sharper and is easier to kill someone rather than an axe :3

i love SIX anne boleyn sm, especially how andrea (and millie obvis) played her, but i do dislike how anne boleyn is portrayed in SIX.

shes shown as a sassy, hotheaded and bubbly character. anne boleyn was not really like that; she was rather calm and content with herself. her last words being so empowering to her death, and she was also rather intelligent. which, was shown in a few parts of the musical. but, not enough in my opinion.

as a musical who is meant to bring out the truer part of the queens and their life, i hate how little they did with her. now lucy and toby are absolutely geniuses and i LOVE their writing. but, i just wish they spent a little longer with her; as she is also the most known / misinterpreted queen of all of them. i just think there could be some more historical accuracy.

this is no hate at ALL, i love anne boleyn and dont lose ur head in this musical. just wanted to state my opinion :)

I'm undertaking another October illustration challenge! This year I'm drawing a new Tudor miniature each day in October. I'm using traditional materials for the first time in a while; black ink and watercolour.

Here's days 1 - 6!
